Concert Review

Gayathri Venkatraghavan presents a brilliant concert

True to her reputation as one of the leading Carnatic vocalists, Vidushi Gayathri Venkatraghavan presented a captivating, chaste concert at Nadasurabhi, on 21st April 2013.

Commencing with a relatively less heard varnam in Nattai, Gayathri went on to a fully rounded presentation of the popular Aarabhi raga kriti Naadasuda rasa, which included brief alapana, neraval and swaras. After a Lathangi kriti, Gayathri spaced the concert with a mesmerizing Ahiri raga masterpiece of Thyagaraja, Mayamma yani ne. The main item of the evening was Thyagaraja’s keeravani krithi Kaligiyunte gada, with elaborate raga, neraval and swara at Baaguga sree Raghu. The concert was concluded after a purandara dasa’s Jagadodharana in Kapi and a desh piece Rama naamame.

Overall, the concert was well planned and executed and quite balanced in all its aspects.GayathriVenkatraghavan was well supported by Smt.Nalina Mohan on violin, Sri.Cheluvaraju on mridnagam and Sri.B.N.Chandramouli on Kanjira.
